This featured Car is Carrera

In the 1970, Carrera offered 1:24, 1:32 and 1:60 scales for slot cars, and the slot-free "Servo" systems which allowed cars to switch lanes, guided by the guard rails on the outside. Due to the many systems offered, and fewer customers (Generation), Neuhierl had to sell his company in 1985, and took his own life. The new owners sold rather cheap products.

2012 SSC Tuatara

2012 awaits the entry of the newest offering from Shelby Super Cars (SSC), the 2012 SSC Tuatara. This car is aimed to unseating the Bugatti Veyron SS as the fastest car in the world. Jerod Shelby, founder and CEO of SSC, unveiled the Tuatara in the presence of a few people from the industry. Jerod Shelby is not related to Carroll Shelby, the legend behind all those muscle cars. The name of this supercar is derived from the Maori language that describes a resident reptile from New Zealand, Tuatara, means “peaks at the back.”
Shelby and his team of 16 engineers have put their skills together to produce a high performance production vehicle in the SSC Tuatara by highlighting this rear wheel drive, 1,350 horsepower speedster. SSC produced the Ultimate Aero that was able to topple the record established by the Bugatti Veyron. In 2007, the Ultimate Aero TT had a run of 256 mph on a four mile stretch of a Texas carriageway. The Volkswagen owned Bugatti, not to be denied, came back with the Veyron SS (Super Sport) and clocked a record 267 mph.

With the Tuatara, Shelby SuperCars intends to reclaim that distinction of being the fastest car in the world, by aiming for a record setting 275 mph.

Performance

As for the engine, Jerod Shelby’s team of engineers has come up with a rear wheel drive, quad cam (four valves per cylinder OHC), twin turbo V8 engine. This 7 Liter engine produces 1350 HP and revs up to 9000 rpm.

Braking is aided by traction control, ABS with servo assistance, and the use of carbon ceramic brakes by Brembo. It comes in at 2646 lbs (1200 kgs) curb weight, which puts it at 1407 lbs(638 kgs) lighter than the Veyron. Little, if any, change has been done on the suspension in which SSC keeps the coil over setup intact along with the triple plate carbon clutch mechanism.

Expectations are high on this new SSC Tuatara, with all those horses; zero to sixty mph should come in under 2.8 seconds. It has been claimed that its top speed will be at 275 mph, hang on to your seats for the final results.

2011 Citroen E-3POD Antistatic

The Royal College of Arts in London recently held a design project sponsored by Citroen. Second year MA students were asked to design an ultra compact model that would establish a unique futuristic Citroen e-vehicle. Chosen as the best overall design was Heikki Juvonen’s E-3POD Antistatic.
The E-3POD is a unique 3-wheeled battery powered single-seat vehicle. Its compact yet aerodynamic design minimizes the size of the battery that is required to power the vehicle. This stylish design has two small wheels in the front with the driver sitting inside a larger wheel at the rear. The large wheel also acts as a structural support making the vehicle light-weight and cost efficient. Sound insulation is no longer required because of the silent electric engine. The scratch resistant plastic canopy provides some comfortable personal space and protects the driver from outside elements.
Designed for urban use, the E-3POD is meant to be an innovative means of transportation. Positioned between a bicycle and a car, it is ideal for students commuting to school or going on short to medium distance trips. Its compact size enables it to be parked in smaller spaces making it a welcomed addition to the current means of transportation.

2011 Cadillac Converj ELR Concept

The 2011 Cadillac Converj ELR Concept was designed as the successor to the previous 2009 Candillac Converj by the American car manufacturer, General Motors. The Cadillac Converj’s first appearance was at the North American International Auto Show in 2009 held in Detroit, Michigan. The Converj was also recognized with numerous awards for the design concept vehicle awarde by the Southeast Automotive Media Organization (SEAMO) in the very same year.

Performance

Cadillac ELR sport coupe is a 2-door, with Front-engine front-wheel body layout. This hybrid coupe is driven by an electric propulsion technology as compared to the GM Voltec platform of the 2009 Converj. Additional key features for the ELR model is the so called extended range capability of its storage batteries to go beyond the additional distance of a hundred kilometers. Thus, according to General Motors, other details of the ELR concept is currently on the development phases in term of the vehicle’s performance, production and prices will be announced later.
There have also been reports that prior to the debut of the Cadillac ELR, several issues were addressed to further enhance the on-going production of this model particularly the performance of hybrid electric motors. However, on the positive note, General Motors recently announced last August 2011 that it will continue the production plan for the Cadillac ELR as scheduled. This innovative design and state of the art engineering makes the ELR model one of its class ever built in the car manufacturing industry to develop a hybrid sports car.

2011 Wheelsandmore Aston Martin Vantage V8

If you haven’t seen the 2011 Wheelsandmore Aston Martin Vantage V8, you have never seen an elegantly modern vehicle. The cuts and the curves are classy, yet the Aston Martin Vantage would refuse to be called a classic when it screams all around of a modern concept with modern materials and very modern specs.

The WheelsandMore Aston Martin Vantage has a 4.7L V8 engine, has a 369lb-ft of torque and is powered by 460 horsepower, which is an upgrade from the past 420 horsepower that it held. Without really getting overboard, Wheelsandmore have made quite sure that it doesn’t only make beautiful cars, but that it could make a well-upgraded car that leaves an impression. Front wheels are in 9.0x21 and the rears are in 11.0x21.
Performance and comfort has been rolled into one and has been successfully turned into a nice, well-rounded car. There is a slight increase in speed and power, and this increase is more than welcome for people who have come to love everything about the modified Aston Martin Vantage V8. Who wouldn’t? When you’ve got a beautiful car in front of you that has got this much power in such a small package, you wouldn’t be able to resist it too.

2011 Porsche 911 Turbo S

The Porsche 911 is a timeless classic that is a trendsetter in more ways than one. For one, it has fundamentally never changed since 1964, and yet it is still one of the best touring cars around. A true “everyday supercar”, it is a perfect balance of speed, practicality, and innovation. One of the most popular models in the 911 line is the Turbo.

As the name suggests, it uses a turbocharger to boost engine output ay at least 25 percent. Starting in 1976, the 911 Turbo cars have always been one of the fastest vehicles in the world during their time. And now, 35 years later, the tradition of the Turbo lives with the 2011 Porsche 911 Turbo S, the most powerful 911 Turbo yet.
The 2011 Turbo S is based on the current generation Porsche 911, the 997. And according to the guys from Stuttgart, Germany themselves, this is for the driver that only settles for the best. While it looks like the ordinary Porsche 911 Turbo, this is made to be head and shoulders better to the already competitive Turbo.

Performance

Of course, the star of the show is the same 6 cylinder boxer engine that powered the 911. Also, befitting its name, it is equipped with a turbocharger that significantly boosts experience. But it doesn’t stop there. There are 2 turbochargers found in this car, each equipped with variable turbine geometry. This increases the already impressive numbers of the 911 Turbo into 530 horsepower (a 30hp increase from the Turbo) and 516 lb/ft of torque. But the incredible thing is, despite its ferocious output, it is the most fuel efficient car in its class, knocking in an estimated 25 miles per gallon, which is super impressive given its performance credentials. And performance credentials are something that this car has a lot of.
So, here are some of those performance credentials. Zero to 100 kilometers per hour comes in 3.3 seconds, zero to 200 kilometers per hour comes in 10.8 seconds, and top speed is rated at over 300 kilometers an hour. Those are numbers that are well within supercar territory. Even more amazing about the 911 Turbo S is that it is equipped standard with the features that are optional even for the 911 Turbo.

2011 Identity Y2 Concept

After being absent for nearly five years, Identity resurfaces at the Geneva Motor Show with its latest supercar prototype- the 2011 Identity Y2.

Identity first entered the Geneva Motor Show in 2007 with its first supercar concept- the I2. It has taken the company from Spain five long years to produce another supercar in the form of the Y2. The latest in Identity’s line up draws inspiration from one of the most feared and ferocious predators known to man, the great white shark. Will the Y2 live up to the image of the streamlined and powerful ocean monster it was designed after?

Performance

In paper, the Identity Y2 is a sports coupe equipped with a V12 engine capable of 520 horsepower that produces 700Nm of torque (369 lb/ft). All that power under the hood translates to an impressive 0-100km/h (0-60mph) acceleration of less than 5 seconds and a none-too shabby top speed of 300km/h (187mph).
Although the Y2 concept car wasn’t completely finished when shown and it remains unclear as to when Identity will come up with a finished supercar, its engineering and design using premium materials that include Kevlar, aluminium and carbon fiber plus its exciting V12 power train all point to a promising supercar when finished.

Interior & Exterior

The most prominent feature of the 2011 Identity is its a pair of bi-xenon headlights that mimic the great white shark’s own menacing and piercing eyes. Still using the great white predator as design inspiration, the Y2 is fitted with an imposing front grille and side air intakes.

The Y2 is 4.9 meters long, 1.3 meters high, 1.95 meters wide and with a 2.96-meter wheelbase.
All these elements add up to a sleek and roomy yet aggressive and powerful stance- just like the great white shark.

2012 Nissan GTR

Who can ever forget the legendary Nissan GT-R? It was first released in Japan at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show and soon after it conquered the U.S. and the rest of the world.

Aptly called “Godzilla”, this behemoth is back with a roaring reappearance!

Mind you, the 2012 Nissan GT-R is not a merely a face-lifted version of the original. Every modification made by the Nissan engineers had only one thing in mind: to build a better and wilder Godzilla.
Performance

Under the hood, you will be instantly drawn to a bold red valve covering of the GT-R’s powerhouse. Nissan did not change the old VR38DETT 3.8L V6 TT engine featuring a six-speed transmission with dual clutch. A revision of valve-timing, better mixture between air and fuel, and a cranking of boost result to improved power change of 475hp to 530hp.

To tame the beast, Nissan installed powerful brakes and stickier Dunlop tires.

You would think that the new GT-R would be guzzling more fuel as a result of this increase in power. But the use of very-low precious metal catalytic converter mated to a new Electronic Control Unit and state of the art electronics allows the GT-R to consume less fuel while emitting fewer toxic fumes.

If you think the classic GT-R is laden with testosterone, wait till you get your hands on the 2012 edition. More power has been injected into the all-wheel-drive monster from Japan to boost its engine output to 530 horses and torque to 448 lb-ft. All this crazy numbers translate well on the road as the new GT-R zooms from 0-60mph in barely 3.2 seconds.

Innovations in suspension geometry and improvement in the structural stiffness of the car resulted to a more responsive and smoother handling.

2011 Koenigsegg Agera

The 2011 Koenigsegg Agera was launched in celebration of the car manufacturer’s 15 years of existence. It is expected to be the best-ever performing Koenigsegg car ever, both on the road and on the tracks although still bearing fresh traces of the original shape and concept of the Koenigsegg CC which was crafted 15 years earlier.
Koenigsegg believes that only the tires should be between the car and the road, that super cars are no better than the tires they use. For many years Koenigsegg has been collaborating with Michelin in the area of tire development. The latest creation stays true to that philosophy and is setting new standards in overall performance, both in wet and dry handling.

The car’s excellent balance comes from the fact that the front of the car is as wide as its rear. Because of the balanced corners, body roll is minimized. 2011 Porsche 929 Designer Concept

A four-seater concept car designed by Julliana Cho for Porsche, the 2011 Porsche 929 Designer Concept was produced to operate as eco-friendly as feasible, you would not on average assume that Porsche can be the most environmentally-friendly car manufacturer. However, this inventiveness seems to revolutionize the way we perceive the company.

The 4-door coupe is by now standard practice in car design. The Porsche 928, Lamborghini Espada and Ferrari 330 GTC all hold fast to this blueprint with remarkable outcome.
Julliana Cho’s Porsche 929 concept combines sleek styling and environmental awareness. The 929’s proportions is shorter than the Porsche Panamera but lengthier than the 911.
The car concept from Cho will require a thinking man to enjoy it aesthetically. This attempt by Porsche to enter the fray of “Eco-friendly” vehicles is seen as positive from different quarters of the automotive community.

2010 Mazda MX-0 Concept Design

When it comes to driving, many factors come into play. The 2010 Mazda MX-0 focuses on minimum weight for superior cornering and acceleration. This model is based on a previous model, the MX-5, serving as its benchmark for a light-weight but fast car. Based on the MX-5 the design team was able to replace most of its components with simpler ones.
Lightweight materials were used to efficiently reduce its weight but a car that is too light might end up tipping over when cornering quickly whereas a car that is too heavy might not run fast enough.
The Mazda MX-0 is a lightweight car and together with high-torque electric motors makes this car both light and fast and by using less energy and has a minimized use of raw materials, this makes this car environment and economy friendly as well. A correct power to weight ratio together with resource conservation is observed in this car for best performance, optimum driving comfort and being good for the environment.

2011 Nissan Esflow Concept

The 2011 Nissan Esflow Concept is one of the highly innovative cars released by Nissan Motors. The Esflow is basically created to regulate the use of “Zero Emission”. The latter is considered as Nissan’s advocacy program for environmental awareness. Unlike most sports cars, the Esflow is not classified as an existing Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicle.
The Esflow’s overall design was derived from an existing technology. The aluminum chassis is made from “power train units” which are commonly installed in the Nissan LEAF. The Esflow comes in a “rear-wheel” driving system which allows the running of two motors simultaneously. The car’s vibrant proportions are carefully attached above the rear-wheel’s axis to create a “mid-ship position”. The car’s battery packs are made from “Lithium-Ion” which is also found in the Nissan LEAF. The battery packs are placed along the front axis in the rear wheels.
The Esflow’s interior features play a very significant role in ecology today. The car’s cabin has a clean appearance and the rest of the interior components are tightly upholstered with steel frames. The seats meanwhile are made from upholstered gold suede and leather. The doors are thoroughly trimmed with dark blue suede colors for sophisticated look.

Hyundai QarmaQ

Hyundai has presented at the Geneva Show the series model i30 hatchback and the new QarmaQ concept. The crossover Concept, which has been announced in a sketch published a few weeks ago by Hyundai, brings an important change of approach in what concerns the materials used in its composition.
While the traditional cars use metal and glass, QarmaQ is assembled from plastic materials made by GE Plastics. The QarmaQ concept is the result of the cooperation between the 2 companies and brings, as novelty, a vista of the kind that only a view from the chopper gives, because of the great surface of the plasticized windows from the car's body.
By integrating GE's polycarbonate glazing wrap-around and the GE Lexan windscreens, the body weight of the cars is reduced by almost 50 %. A unique technology characterizes Lexan screens: Exatec Technology. It' s a technology through which a thin, protective layer of glass is deposited on the screen, which helps when protecting from scratching or effects of humidity. The material, much lighter than traditional glass used in automotive industry, also increases the impact resistance and both occupant and pedestrian safety. When talking about pedestrian safety, we can also mention the system that uses deformable sections under the concept's body panels, which is able to absorb crush energy in case a collision with a person may happen.
GE Plastics' High Performance Thermoplastic Composite (which is used for the horizontal body panels) manages to also save some weight. 900 recycled plastic bottles have been used when manufacturing other body panels.
The new concept is a showcase of 30 new technologies that will be found in the future Hyundai models. The car is the result of the hard work of Hyundai Motor Europe's Design and Technical Center and it has been engineered in cooperation with GE Plastics. It will be ready to roll in 2008 to 2014.

Caterham Superlight R500

The 2008 Caterham Superlight R500 from the British sport scar manufacturer takes the minimalist light weight Seven philosophy to a new level with more power and sharper handling. The R500 Weighs 506kg and produces 263bhp with a heaving 177 lb per ft of torque transmitted to the rear wheels. The Series 3 chassis flagship model blasts out 520bhp per tonne and is capable of propelling itself from 0 to 60mph in 2.88 seconds.
Lurking under the light weight bonnet is the all alloy 2.0 liter Ford Duratec engine. Fed by its roller barrel throttle bodies, the normally aspirated, four-cylinder mill is tuned by Caterham Powertrain to unleash a monster. The continuous acceleration is transmitted through each ratio by either the standard 6-speed gearbox or the optional Caterham Motorsport engineered sequential transmission.
The performance of the R500 is controlled by race developed Avon CR500 tires and a suspension set up that includes weight reducing aero wishbones and fully adjustable dampers. Bringing the R500 to a steady halt is the four piston calipers clamping on vented discs at the front and light weight twin piston rear calipers. The new performance upgrades for the R500 include a sequential transmission, launch control, a gulping Carbon Induction Airbox and Eibach Springs and dampers derived from the Caterham C400 race series.
